redbullsurfing.com: Inside Tahiti
So, what do you get when you combine the biggest swell to hit Teahupoo in years with space-age video technology? Easy. You get the best view, or should we say views, of the famed Tahitian lefthander…and you get to control the view. It works like this: Thanks to Immersive Media’s 360-degree spherical video camera, a technology that uses a specially designed camera housing to capture eleven separate video streams, as well as their production and post-production platforms, all of the streams are arranged according to geodesic geometry to create a complete spherical image; in other words, a high-resolution, 360-degree view of Teahupoo’s innards. By putting viewers in the director’s seat and giving them the ability to look in all directions, the technology creates a first-of-its-kind video experience that gives viewers the feeling of actually being part of the action.“I think we’ve made a small bit of history with this project,” tells test-pilot Jamie O’Brien, who, along with Jamie Sterling, Raimana Van Bastolaer, and Ian Walsh, had the audacity to strap 25 pounds of electrical equipment to his back and huck himself into the pit. “The video experience that we’ve captured is a first. The view that someone gets by controlling the footage is a perspective that even I've never had until now.”With a simple manipulation of the computer mouse, you can look to the left or right, up or down, front or back. Since you control the camera angle, each viewing of the video can be a completely different and unique experience. So, next time you put on a surf video you may not be sprinting out the door to hit up your 2-foot beachbreaks. After all, why grovel in the slop when you can virtually stand tall in the biggest tube of the year?

Expression Web

Okay, here the scenario

You are a web designer working on your own..what tools will you use.???

Please guys see if you see what if this is you and if you agree pls post me after you rear my ramblings. Okay, so you maybe a newbie or an oldie, a coder or a designer, but if you are just a single person then you be all these and more.

I have to take the photo, make the video, write the copy, design the site, (sing the theme tune, and write the theme tune....lol...little Brittan fans) but you know what I mean.

So I use to use FP2000 and flash and I did get FP2003 but didn't really get the css thing until very late, I hate love the idea of page templates but hate using them. I find it easier to copy a page and paste it, change the code a little and go on. But I have done both. Only I think a templated site tends to look ...well template (yes I know you can use more than one, but try doing this, along with a few different css style sheets and i think you will find thinks go haywire)

Anyway, I moved onto DW8 (adobe) and find this set of tools good but not the quickest, I see the adobe is trying out their AIR and Spry stuff, but again this will require the end user to download a player or plug-in..Now okay 99% of people visiting the various sites I manage have flash but there is a rise in Firefox users and so I feel that we are going back to the days when I had to write a basic htnl, a flash, and then later a high bandwidth version of the same site.

Roll on Silverlight and WPF

So I started looking at this back in August. I must admit all the samples I downloaded and tried modding failed in one way or the other. I have since returned and downloaded the December blend and hey presto I am staring to get results.

But here comes the but...

During those 5 months I have needed to learn visual studio 8, spend a day or two not getting popfly to be of any use, need to learn xml, xaml. And loads of other things so okay all the answers are here or on msdn blogs but is it just me or is the whole thing confusing..

Why did nobody think of Export to html/xbap direct without having to import to VS

Why there is no easy set of preconfiged close min max buttons and code

The whole thing seems great to make a one page app but gets mess when you try two

I make one the startup page to shrink on mouse click to reveal page2.xaml

It sort of worked, when I added more I lost the functionality of it.

I used a different 3dxaml program and this was able to split out fantastic spinning text and objects in a couple of min (no training) you see this is what annoys me about expression products and adobe is that a crappy program can do so much instantly and you get a result that is impressive in min, without a blog, manual, video, lab or training.

In this world where we are trying to get business, there are to many in browser apps on blog sites and other places including office that allow people to make great looking pages with photo and video and rss feeds on their page in a matter of seconds.

Yet for me to try and do the same using either your tools or them from Adobe would take days/weeks

I use to use a program called swishmax for doing flash; I could do a whole site in 21 hours including around 8 beta versions. You see what I think we need is the silverlight to be buzzed into IE7 as an update, and the .net packs in to xp. This will increase the visibility of any site written in these new codes.

Then we need a program "Expression Builder" that would drag and drop allow one to add all the stand alone apps into a manageable website and apply navigation and buttons and check feeds, also produce feeds for feed burner and produce sitemaps.xml for Google and yahoo and put buttons for linking to live fav, etc....like a final assembly block.

This is in no way meant to take away from the great work the TEAM is doing its just my general comment form an end user point of view.

P,s I just got a trust not granted message, so i suppose i need to go off and read another few blogs to see what I have done wrong this time

The cure.......after 72 hrs....4 gallons black coffee...

Not to leave you all hanging in there wondering if I ever got my Vista Back from the dead, I am pleased to say that I have but no single thanks to any one company as the all had a failing in one area or another.

Remember the challenge, no regedit, even from F8 boot or false reinstall

Administrator denied access to run, no desktop, no folder view, no local polices, reboot on trying any of the above or visiting certain websites.

All this hassle over two simple digits 1&0

One would think that in a cold boot F8 dos prompt that one could control the machine.

I could rename regedit to regedit.com but could not use the RUN command to open it from command prompt.......

The offenders in the end were (there are a few because I suspect the signature file presented itself different to varying virus scanners.

I-worm/vb.gk

Troj-generic.2

Worm-rontkbr.gen

Brontok A

The cure was as follows

Housecall.trend could remove the infected files but could not stop the processes, nor could I.

F-secure was able to remove virus but not stop re-infection

But it did at least allow .exe files to be loaded,

This allowed AVG to run and kill virus

But the Admin and regedit remained blocked

The antibrontok tools from Bitdeffender restored registry access

And the good old manual resetting of folder view, and superhidden values returned Both PCs to a working state

As you can see All the Defender definitions were installed at time of attack

UAC and the secure VISTA...not

Hi,

sitting here with 2601 viruses detected so far by f-secure, I am trying my best (but after 48hrs of scanning and trying all manner of approaches to gain access to My pc) I have to question this UAC policy , The reason for this is simple if like me you have managed to get a virus, the one in question is some variant of the RONTKBR.GEN, I contracted this back in April and wrote a few reports back then but I was ignored, I managed to quite easily remove it that time. But now I have a much scarier version, which will NOT allow regedit, nor a notepad generated key to be written to reg. Will not allow any *.exe to be run, or down loaded, effected files can be detected by Trend housecall, Symantec, f-secure, but they are failing to remove/clean the files.

The files that you need to kill/rename/delete and their paths are shown by the scan engines but they are cloaked when you look for them using the dos prompt.

Your files show hidden option is disabled....and you are running with no rights from the admin, so you can not open the user control panel and disable the Admin account security settings.

Oh yes and it shuts down if you try anything that might cure it, like certain websites and blogs

Windows Defender gives the pc a clean bill of health (where do I get a refund) and

The Live OneCare vista scan sees something, and then fails to cure it after HOURS

So in all 48 hours later I am eyeing up my old win95 WITH ENVY

PC is 2.8 dual core p4, with 300 GB main, 200 GB sata, 40 GB sccsi

VISTA ultamite

2 GB ram plus 4 GB ready boost usb

256mb geforce6800 dual DVI with two screens.... as pictured on my spaces.live

The point is that UAC and work around from boot etc, allows me to be locked out of my machine, I can run the regedit if I run command prompt from a boot/install vistaCD...cancel...see options..Fix

But the information the scanners see in the registry are not present in the registry I can see from booting to X virtual drive

I know that somehow this thing has created a User account and put my name on it. However this is the strange thing.

When the p.c boots is goes okay to the welcome screen and then complete blank desktop loads, no icons nothing,

You have to do ctrl alt Del to then load task manager

I then instruct it to run iexplore.exe, and then for the tools menu I select view files to get the file explorer launched, then I must navigate to the PUBLIC folder and select any of the folders and click inside then on the sample or the exe file it has created, like music.exe

The minute I click this hey presto the WOW kicks in

I suddenly get back my desktop and can see use all programs, but cannot do anything that requires Admin rights.

So there you have it, UAC + some smart kid makes MY vista so secure that I cannot get into it without climbing over all the backyard fences and sneaking in a window, but then I can't make a noise or I get kicked out

P>S

The same bug is in an xp laptop, and again has stopped any regedit/hidden files, but I suspect this will be easier to cure.

Any IDEAS???

Sony Ericsson software suite

Well despite Sony launching the w880 back in Feb. 07 the software need to use the phone was not vista compatible, a quick check on their website revealed it would be late Sept, and the email to them is still unanswered so this must be late December.. Anyway by chance I happened to be on there in June or so of this year and there it was...vista 32 bit version of the software suite...I downloaded and installed....only noticed that my gprs connection tripped on the phone...but I ignore this and continued to do my phonebook and back up etc... The next day I am plagued by slow internet speed...on a 8mb connection... after a while i realise the sony soft ware have changed to default adaptor setting to use the phone (which is no longer connected) so i uninstall the software and the 8mb connection returns..Great...so their first attempt is rubbish. I would have completely forgotten about this only for last week my modem decided to fail, so I dusted off an old adsl 1.0 modem which I would assume I would get at least 1mb out of, as it is it reports 2mb on line, but because it uses a dial up scenario been a usb modem it I suspect is falling foul of some of the Sony software changes in the Registry, that have not been removed.. the reason for this is that performance is little better than 56k and when you run tcp/ip tools on it sometimes it sees the correct modem and other times it sees the Bluetooth PAN, which is how the Sony would connect... I have my doubts as to whether the software did not completely mess up the port settings...thank you Sony

Adobe CS3 and vista

Well after the wait for adobe to catch up with vista I was wrong in thinking that the install would go as easy as possible...nada.. The setup exe kept failing after 10 seconds and then nothing no error message or anything. So off on a wild web hunt to find the answers.. \I would appear that if this happens its due to a java.dll not starting on the setup, so knowing this might happen, adobe in their wisdom prevents you from loading the individual packages...which would get around this...instead you have to drop back to your Dos GURU days and do a little manual instructions.... I did in the course of doing this have to download the windows uninstaller cleanup tool... (Office)...and their own CS3 removal tool...in the end it all worked but not very Vista friendly.

xbox 360 media center extender

this must be the most under advertised but probably one of the best features of a xbox apart from the games. the coonection to vista can be tricky and a littke tempermental but if it fails then the best is to delete and start again, this can take a few atempts. however when all connected it works great. accessing the stored media via the hard drive/conected pc option is faster than using media centre as media centre doesnt cache the album art and therefore delays everytime you load media centre/music..... this is annoying feature/fault.

wm6 on imate jarjar

managed to download a working rom image for wm6 for my imate, of course as predicted it would not install using Vista, so had to borrow an old  XP machine to do it.
this is the best Windows mobile software yet...the Microsoft Natual Speech Engine is the first speech app i have ever seen that worked .
If you have a pda then upgrade to wm6

vista ulitmate full retail

well i finaly got around to it last month, did a full back up and moved off all my files to a Toshiba hard drive (more of that Later), and installed the full legit Vista Ulitmate. This was the quickest install in years, not like the rc1 and rc2 which nearly took overnite to install, this went in no problem...well nearly...the beta version could handle the scssi card but the full version did not have the driver, so a trip to the vendor a few weeks later sorted this out.

but then the horror of all problems....that darn Nvidia Card, the bios from Nvidia installed pre the motherboard bios , so a corrupted bios can cos a lot of problems most of which Nvidia could not care about...
